The MTG Tradepost Protocol: How to Trade Like a Pro

Welcome to the Secondary Market Facilitator for South African Magic: The Gathering players. We facilitate the movement of cardboard, not cash. Our system uses live market data to give every card a Rand value, ensuring your trades are fair and balanced without the haggling. Our system is built with "Radar" logic, so you add the cards you want to the system, and we’ll notify you if someone uploads those cards available for trade.

The system only works if it has your inventory, and the community needs to see what you have to trade. We’ve created a few ways for you to digitise your binder. You can type the card name, scan the card artwork for a quick match, or upload a CSV file. Choose the condition and the quantity, and you are good to go. You have the option to upload photos of the cards or skip it until a serious trader requests photos through your public binder. We send out an email notification once you get an image request. (We might move this over to Whatsapp but you have to let us know what works best so we can implement.)

Load your cards

Before you can trade, the community needs to see what you have.

Staged vs. Secured:

Staged: If you skip the photo upload, your card is "Staged." It’s visible to others, but less "trusted."

Secured: Uploading a clear photo of the physical card marks it as "Secured." Secured assets (with photos) are the gold standard. Traders are 70% more likely to accept an offer when they can see the actual centring and surface of your card. If it's just 'Staged,' expect a request for photos before the trade locks in.

Calibrate the Radar (Add Your Wishlist)

This is where the magic happens. The Radar is your automated scout, and we’ve designed it to pick up the cards closest to you to save on shipping costs. We’ve also programmed our deckbuilder to let the radar know if you are missing the cards to your ultimate deck.

Go to your Radar and add the names of the cards you are hunting for (e.g., Ragavan, Nimble Pilferer). The moment another user in South Africa uploads that card to their inventory, the system "locks on."

Signal Locked: Check your Dashboard's "Radar Hero" section. If a match is found, the card will appear there instantly with a "Secure Match" button.

Build a Deck with our deck simulator

Want to see if a deck is viable before you trade for the pieces? Use the Deckbuilder to theory-craft your next build. Keep an eye on average CMC, ramp, intelligence and interaction in the Tactical Intel section.

Test your first hand and consecutive draws, play your mana cards, and visualise your graveyard. Or Mulligan. Everything is no strings digital so play around and build masterful decks.

Sync to Radar: Once your deck is finished, you can "Broadcast to Radar." The system will look at what you don't own in your inventory and start scanning the RSA sectors for those specific gaps.

The real MVP Trade Functionality

Trading on MTG Tradepost is a "Like-for-Like" exchange. We do not facilitate cash payouts between users; we facilitate the movement of cardboard. Trade a card for a card, or Trade a few staples for that missing piece in your deck. Cards are classed and have a rand value, so you can always ensure the trade is fair.

When you find a card you want (either via the Global Feed or a Radar Lock), click "Propose Trade." You will then select cards from your inventory that you are willing to offer in exchange.

The Trust Protocol

Pending: The receiver gets a notification and can view your offered cards and their condition. They can either accept or counteroffer for other cards that might interest them.

Accepted: Both parties agree to the value of the swap. Courier and locker options are available. Traders can also opt for an in-person swap. This option asks for confirmation of the swap to complete a trade.

Shipping: We coordinate the courier (we recommend door-to-door services for high-value trades). We’ll send you the waybill and book the courier to collect.

Building Your Rep

Every successful trade increases your Trust Protocol percentage on your dashboard. Higher trust scores make other traders more likely to accept your high-value offers. Traders are also required to rate each other after a trade. We like to see everyone happy with the cards they trade because ultimately we love trading!
